Doing renovation work to your home?

Is your building renovation contractor licensed by the City of Toronto?

Subcontractors working for a general contractor must also have a licence. Chapter 545 of the City of Toronto Municipal Code requires that the following building contractors be licensed to operate in the City of Toronto:

Building renovators such as: roofers, carpenters, bricklayers, concrete workers, waterproofing

经过长达七年的缠诉，位于多伦多中区华埠附近的38 Brunswick Ave.民宅的加建部分，被安省市政管理委员会(Ontario Municipal Board )确定为可以合法存在，仅须作一些小的修改即可。

这个房子的业主原先是曾士钧与太太，现为他们的女儿曾秉慧。曾氏夫妇于2006年以71万8000元买下此二手屋，当时房屋已经有加建部分。据曾士钧2011年接受本报记者采访时表示，由于在未经申请的情况下即将原本屋后加盖的部分拆除并重建，且重建的部分较原先长度还长，而遭政府部门提告并勒令拆除。曾士钧当时承认自己「违建」有错，但希望政府有关部门能让他的重建屋「就地合法」。

曾士钧称，此屋在2006年6月购入后，因后方加盖部分遭白蚁蛀食且倾斜，因此交屋后即进行装修。但装修尚未完成，当年8月29日，就收到市府的通知勒令停工。不过，最终花费8万元的装修工程还是完成，曾士钧认为「重建的部分仅比旧房多出45公分」。

但紧接着曾家受到一连串的诉讼，包括多伦多调解委员会以附近居民的投诉文件为由，指曾家在未获得许可的情形下，即在屋后加盖三层且巨大的建物，不但违反城市规画法(Zoning By-Law)，同时又违反建筑法(Building Code)。
